Accuracy in Media Launches Days of Activism
Accuracy in Media, a watchdog group, has launched a campaign to combat the rise of antisemitism on college campuses across the United States. As part of their initiative, the group plans to deploy mobile billboards to several prominent universities, including Columbia University, Harvard University, University of California at Berkeley, University of Colorado at Boulder, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and the University of Southern California.
New Website and Database
The campaign is accompanied by the launch of a new website by Accuracy in Media. The website includes a petition urging employers to “blacklist” applicants who have allegedly engaged in antisemitic activities or sentiments on the respective campuses. To track these applicants, the group has partnered with fellow watchdog group Canary Mission to create a database that documents individuals and organizations espousing hateful antisemitic beliefs.
Fighting Against Hate
Accuracy in Media President Adam Guillette spoke out against the surge in antisemitic sentiment witnessed on American university campuses. He called the rise in hate “disgusting and concerning” and emphasized the need to hold these individuals accountable. Guillette urged employers to thoroughly examine their hiring practices and take a firm stand against employing those who promote antisemitism.
Raising Awareness
Accuracy in Media has taken an aggressive approach in raising awareness about antisemitism on college campuses. One example of their efforts was the sharp backlash they faced after criticizing Claudine Gay, a university administrator, for her response to antisemitism on campus. The group trolled her with a “moving day” billboard and U-Haul trucks, demanding her resignation.
Sending a Message
Accuracy in Media’s campaign seeks to send a clear message to students and faculty members promoting hate speech: their actions have no place on college campuses. By urging employers to blacklist individuals who engage in antisemitism, the group aims to ensure that there are consequences for those who espouse hateful beliefs.
Through their days of activism, Accuracy in Media hopes to bring attention to the issue of antisemitism on college campuses and encourage a more inclusive and tolerant environment for all students.
