House Republicans’ Requests for Testimony and Documents
Special Counsel Robert Hur is set to testify before the House Judiciary Committee on March 12, as per sources familiar with the matter. This follows requests from House Republicans for Hur’s testimony, audio recordings, and transcripts regarding his investigation into President Joe Biden’s handling of classified material. Despite the yearlong probe concluding with no charges, Hur, in a 388-page report released recently, stated that evidence of Biden’s actions was insufficient to warrant prosecution.
Hur’s report also painted a critical portrait of President Biden, highlighting concerns regarding his memory. The White House has vehemently refuted many claims in the report, particularly those related to Biden’s mental acuity. Meanwhile, House Republicans have urged the Department of Justice to release transcripts and recordings of Hur’s interviews with Biden for their impeachment inquiry.
The House Judiciary, Oversight, and Ways and Means committees argue that these documents are crucial, citing concerns that Biden may have retained sensitive materials related to his family’s foreign business dealings.
