Trump Leads in Hypothetical Matchups
According to a recent Wall Street Journal poll, former President Donald Trump maintains a lead over President Joe Biden in hypothetical matchups. The poll, discussed by political analyst David Axelrod on a podcast, revealed that Trump holds a 47% to 43% advantage when pitted against Biden in a two-person race. Furthermore, Trump secures a 37% to 31% lead when five independent candidates are included on the ballot.
Biden’s Job Approval Reaches Record Low
The Wall Street Journal poll also highlights a new record low for President Biden’s job approval rating, with only 37% of respondents expressing satisfaction. Additionally, a significant majority of 61% view the president’s overall image in a negative light. Axelrod voiced his concerns about these numbers, suggesting that they indicate a rationalization of votes against Biden.
Challenges for Biden on Multiple Fronts
Axelrod further criticized the recent photo op featuring President Biden and a ‘Bidenomics’ sign, expressing disbelief at the administration’s approach. The poll revealed that, on issues such as the economy and inflation, respondents tended to side with Trump rather than Biden. Only on the issue of abortion did Biden manage to surpass Trump.
Methodology and Contributors
The Wall Street Journal poll surveyed 1,500 registered voters between November 29th and December 4th, with a margin of error of +/- 2.5 percentage points. The report also acknowledged contributions to the poll analysis by Michael Lee and Paul Steinhauser from Fox News Digital.
