Texans Make the Right Pick
In the highly anticipated 2023 NFL draft, rookie quarterback Stroud was not the first choice, but the Houston Texans couldn’t be happier that he fell into their hands. The team selected Stroud as the second pick overall, right after the Carolina Panthers selected their quarterback of choice.
A Stellar Rookie Season
Stroud wasted no time proving his worth as he led the Texans to a 10-7 record in his debut season. His exceptional performance included a playoff victory, making him just the fifth rookie quarterback in history to throw for a remarkable 4,000 yards in a single season. His outstanding contributions on the field did not go unnoticed.
Finalist for the Award
Stroud’s incredible performance earned him a spot as a finalist for the prestigious award alongside other talented players such as tight end Sam LaPorta, running back Jahmyr Gibbs, wide receiver Puka Nacua, and running back Bijan Robinson. When asked about his nomination, Stroud expressed his gratitude and humbleness, acknowledging the other deserving players in the running.
“It’s amazing. It was a goal of mine coming into the year, and I’ve been blessed enough to be able to get the recognition for it and hopefully win it,” Stroud told Fox News Digital in January. “But I know there’s a lot of great players nominated, and they are just as deserved as me. So, I’m just really honored to be a part of that.”
Impressive Stats
Stroud’s exceptional season was highlighted by leading the league with an impressive 23 touchdowns. He also became the youngest player in history to lead the NFL in touchdown-to-interception ratio, a true testament to his talent and skill.
A Second Promising Pick
The Texans made another wise move in the draft, selecting Anderson right after Stroud. Had it not been for a trade, Anderson would not have ended up with the Texans. The team traded up from the 12th spot, making a bold move that paid off. Anderson made an impact with 7.0 sacks, the second-most on the team, and tied with Jonathan Greenard with 22 quarterback hits.
Continued Success
Last year’s award winners were Sauce Gardner and Garrett Wilson of the New York Jets. As the NFL continues to witness the rise of young talent, Stroud and Anderson have undoubtedly solidified their place as key players for the Houston Texans.
