First Selection Scores Poorly in Passing Contest
Nikita Kucherov, the first selection in the game played on Saturday afternoon, failed to impress during the minute-long passing contest. Out of a possible 33 points, Kucherov managed to score only five. This lack of effort did not go unnoticed by the announcers on ESPN.
Criticism from Announcers
During the live broadcast, ESPN announcer John Buccigross and hockey Hall of Famer Mark Messier did not hold back their disappointment. “I’m not sensing a lot of intensity here, Mess,” Buccigross remarked, to which Messier replied, “Not quite enough intensity here whatsoever.” The crowd’s frustration became evident, and Buccigross added, “This is not a good look, quite frankly. The fans are booing him, and this is what happens when you don’t try your best and you’re in a hockey city like Toronto. They’re gonna let you know.”
Last Place Finish in Stick Handling
Kucherov’s struggles continued in the stick handling contest, where he finished last with a time of 44.178 seconds. In contrast, every other participant finished in under 40 seconds.
Unapologetic Attitude
Despite his poor performance, Kucherov did not show much remorse. When asked about his display, he commented, “You sit there for like three hours, and then you get to go stick handle. That was kind of tough.” It seems Kucherov may have been more focused on his plans to visit Fillmores, a gentleman’s club this weekend.
