Hawks Win Draft Lottery with 3% Odds
The Atlanta Hawks have clinched the top spot in the 2024 NBA Draft after emerging victorious in the Draft Lottery held at the McCormick Place Convention Center in Chicago. Despite having only a 3% chance of landing the coveted first pick, the Hawks, who finished 10th in the Eastern Conference this season with a 36-46 record, defied the odds and came out on top.
Historic Moment for the Franchise
If the Hawks decide to retain the top pick, it will mark the fourth time in franchise history that they have held the first selection since their inaugural choice of David Thompson from N.C. State in 1975. Notably, this will be the first time the Hawks have secured the first pick since the introduction of the Draft Lottery in 1985, adding to the significance of this achievement.
2024 NBA Draft Details
The Washington Wizards, tied with the Detroit Pistons for the highest odds at 14%, will claim the second pick in the draft, followed by the Houston Rockets at third, and the San Antonio Spurs at fourth. Despite finishing with the worst record in the league, the Pistons will have the fifth selection.
Unlike last year when Victor Wembanyama was a clear favorite, this year’s draft presents a more level playing field with no standout frontrunner. Noteworthy prospects include French players Zaccharie Risacher and Alex Sarr, both highly regarded for their potential impact in the league.
Save the Date for the Draft
The 2024 NBA Draft is scheduled for June 26-27, set to be held over two days at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Basketball enthusiasts can look forward to an exciting event where future talents will find their new NBA homes.
