ISS Debris Falls on Florida Home
A mysterious cylindrical object crashed through the roof of a Florida home last month, causing significant damage. The homeowner, Alejandro Otero, was shocked to discover the object, weighing about 2 lbs, had torn through two floors of his house in Naples. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident, although Otero mentioned it “almost hit my son.”
NASA’s Investigation
The falling object was likely part of an “equipment pallet” that the International Space Station (ISS) had discarded. Jonathan McDowell, an astronomer, revealed that just minutes before the incident, a space debris reentry occurred over the Gulf of Mexico. The object missed its intended path and ended up damaging Otero’s home in Naples.
Possible Compensation
NASA is now conducting a thorough investigation into the origin of the object. If it is determined that the debris came from the ISS, Otero may be entitled to compensation. However, complications could arise if the object is found to be of foreign origin, according to Michelle Hanlon, from the Center for Air and Space Law.
The homeowner is eagerly awaiting the results of NASA’s analysis at the Kennedy Space Center to shed light on the mysterious space debris that caused havoc in his home.
