Prescription Medications Found at Perry’s Residence
In a shocking turn of events, the autopsy report of beloved actor Luke Perry has revealed the presence of ketamine in his system. The report also mentioned the discovery of prescription medications and loose pills at Perry’s residence. However, it was clarified that alcohol, methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, PCP, and fentanyl were not detected.
Ketamine Infusion Therapy for Depression and Anxiety
Perry, best known for his role on the hit TV show “Beverly Hills, 90210,” had reportedly been receiving ketamine infusion therapy for depression and anxiety. The autopsy disclosed that trace amounts of ketamine were found in his stomach contents. The exact method of intake, however, remains unknown.
The medical examiner noted that Perry’s last known treatment was over a week before his death. It was determined that the ketamine in his system at the time of death could not be from the infusion therapy, as ketamine’s half-life is relatively short.
Ketamine: From Veterinary Use to Drug of Abuse
Ketamine, a dissociative anesthetic drug, was initially used by veterinarians for horses undergoing surgery. Dr. Michael Baden, former chief medical examiner of New York City, explained that ketamine later gained popularity among humans due to its hallucinogenic effects.
“It became a drug of abuse back in the 60s and 70s,” Dr. Baden shared. “It was not very popular, but it was not a narcotic drug.” He expressed surprise that ketamine was found in Perry’s autopsy, as it was not one of the drugs he was known to abuse.
No Foul Play Suspected
The Department of Medical Examiner initially listed Perry’s case as “deferred” and cited “other significant conditions” as a contributing factor. However, no foul play was suspected, and no illegal drugs were found at the scene of the incident. Perry was laid to rest on November 3 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
The LAPD and the LA County Medical Examiner are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding Perry’s death. The case has been transferred to the LAPD Robbery-Homicide Division, which often handles high-profile cases.
As the details of Luke Perry’s tragic demise continue to unfold, his fans and loved ones are left mourning the loss of a talented actor and advocate against drug abuse.
