Details of the Settlement
Former CBS chief executive and president Les Moonves has agreed to pay a $11,250 fine to settle a complaint filed against him. The complaint accused Moonves of interfering with a police investigation of a sexual assault case.
Allegations and Actions
Moonves was accused of working closely with a former captain of the Los Angeles Police Department to obtain confidential information about a sexual assault victim’s police report against him. Moonves even met with the captain for an hour at a restaurant to discuss ways to quash the complaint.
Consequences and Response
Moonves was accused of three violations of city rules. His attorney has not yet provided a comment on the matter. The Los Angeles City Ethics Commission will convene next week to discuss the settlement.
Background and Legal Proceedings
The incident came to light in 2022 after a settlement was reached in which CBS and Moonves agreed to pay $30.5 million for keeping shareholders uninformed about the sexual assault allegations. Moonves admitted to relations with accusers but maintained they were consensual. Despite the allegations, the Los Angeles County district attorney decided not to file criminal charges against Moonves in 2018.
