Cher and Clarkson Share Accomplishments in Music
During a recent conversation on “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” Cher and host Kelly Clarkson discussed their musical achievements. Clarkson pointed out that Cher was the only musician to have number 1 songs over seven decades. However, Cher clarified that she and the Rolling Stones shared this accomplishment. She humorously added, “Two of us have. It took four of them to be one of me.” Cher also revealed that she was not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which shocked both Clarkson and the audience.
Cher’s Bold Statement and Impact on Music
Cher boldly expressed her dissatisfaction with not being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She stated, “I’m never going to change my mind. They can just go you-know-what themselves.” Despite not being recognized by the Hall of Fame, Cher proudly stated, “I changed music forever with ‘Believe.'”
Released in 1998, Cher’s single “Believe” became a worldwide hit, reaching the number one spot across charts in over 23 countries. The song also popularized the use of Autotune, an audio-processing tool that has since become a staple in pop music.
2023 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductees
The 2023 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony took place on November 3 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The inductees included Sheryl Crow, Willie Nelson, Missy Elliot, George Michael, Rage Against the Machine, Kate Bush, and the Spinners. These artists were voted on by more than 1,000 musicians, historians, and music industry professionals for their profound impact on the sound of youth culture and their contributions to rock ‘n’ roll.
Controversy Surrounding Dolly Parton’s Nomination
Dolly Parton made headlines when she expressed her gratitude for the nomination but stated that she didn’t feel she had earned the right to be recognized as a rock artist over other performers. She respectfully declined the nomination. However, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced that they were not backing down, emphasizing that the organization is not defined by any one genre and has deep roots in country and rhythm and blues. Parton later reconsidered her decision and said she would accept her induction if it came to fruition.
Cher’s Recent Album Release
On October 20, Cher debuted her first-ever holiday album titled “Christmas.” This release marks Cher’s return to original music after ten years, following her 2013 album “Closer to the Truth.”
