Travis County Medical Examiner Rules Death as “Suicide”
Austin, Texas – The entertainment industry mourns the loss of actor Justin Bruening as the Travis County Medical Examiner confirms his cause of death as “suicide.” The 43-year-old actor was found deceased on September 15th in Austin.
Autopsy Report Reveals Troubling Details
According to the autopsy report, emergency medical services were called to the scene, but sadly, Bruening was pronounced dead upon their arrival. The report further states that multiple letters indicating suicidal intent and instructions for others were discovered at the scene.
Additionally, a postmortem toxicology exam revealed the presence of trace amounts of ethanol, cocaine and its metabolites, diphenhydramine, and amphetamine in Bruening’s system. Diphenhydramine, commonly used as an antihistamine medication, and amphetamines, known as stimulants, were among the substances found.
A Talented Career in Television
Bruening, renowned for his exceptional talent, achieved notable successes in daytime television. After his role as Richie Novak on ABC’s “All My Children,” he went on to portray Billy Abbott on CBS’ “The Young and the Restless,” where he earned three daytime Emmy Awards. Additionally, he captivated audiences for six years on the ABC soap opera “General Hospital” as Jason Morgan/Drew Cain.
His talent extended beyond daytime television, with memorable performances in shows such as “Ray Donovan,” “Justified,” “Ringer,” and “American Sniper.” Bruening also showcased his acting prowess alongside Octavia Spencer and the late Chadwick Boseman in the AppleTV+ series “Truth Be Told,” where he played the role of Alex Dunn.
A Life of Achievement and Generosity
Bruening was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and raised in Grand Prairie, Texas. After graduating from the University of Texas, Austin, he initially began working in the mailroom of a prominent entertainment management/production company. However, encouraged by friends, he dared to pursue a career in acting, leading to his remarkable success.
Outside of his acting career, Bruening was a respected restaurateur, owning several bars and restaurants in the Los Angeles area for many years.
He is survived by his mother Patricia, sister Megan, brother-in-law Ronnie, nephew Grayson, and niece Charley. His representatives released a statement expressing the profound loss felt by his family, friends, and colleagues, who will forever miss his warm personality, generous spirit, and genuine kindness.
