Police Investigate Incident at Royal Residence
A man rammed his car into the gates of Buckingham Palace in central London during the early hours of Saturday, according to a statement from Metropolitan Police. The unidentified driver was immediately hospitalized following the crash. He has been charged with suspicion of criminal damage.
Authorities are currently conducting an investigation into the matter to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Despite the alarming nature of the crash, BBC reported that it is not being treated as terror-related.
Royal Family Unharmed, Gate Repaired
Fortunately, no members of the royal family were present at the time of the crash. The palace gate, now covered in wooden boards, stands as a reminder of the unusual event that took place over the weekend.
Buckingham Palace, a historic landmark serving as the administrative headquarters of the monarch, has been the official London residence of the United Kingdom’s sovereigns since 1837.
Security Concerns at Buckingham Palace
This is not the first security incident to occur at Buckingham Palace. Last year, just days before the coronation of King Charles III, a man was apprehended outside the palace grounds after throwing potentially dangerous items, including shotgun cartridges, into the premises.
London’s Metropolitan Police are expected to provide further updates on the ongoing investigation into the recent car crash incident at Buckingham Palace.
