Legacy of Independence and Confidence
A guide dog, affectionately known as the “Dogfather,” is bidding farewell to his breeding days after siring over 300 puppies. Trigger, a 9-year-old golden retriever with Guide Dogs charity in the U.K., has been a cornerstone of their breeding program. The organization praised Trigger’s offspring for bringing independence and confidence to visually impaired individuals throughout Britain.
Remarkable Contribution to Guide Dog Community
Trigger’s impressive record includes fathering 323 pups, with 39 litters to his name. His last litter of five daughters and one son, lovingly dubbed the “Triglets,” marks the end of an era for the prolific guide dog. Guide Dogs’ breeding operations head, Janine Dixon, lauded Trigger’s gentle nature and robust health as invaluable assets to their program.
Retirement and Continuation of Legacy
As Trigger embarks on a well-deserved retirement, nine of his daughters and his son Pierre will carry on his lineage in shaping future guide dogs. The loyal companion will remain in Banbury, England, under the care of Sarah Byrne, a volunteer who has looked after him diligently for the past seven years. Trigger’s impact on the guide dog community will be cherished for years to come.
