A charter flight from Haiti carrying American passengers landed at Miami International Airport on a Sunday afternoon, providing a lifeline for U.S. citizens amidst the turmoil in the country.
Escape from Chaos
The Global X charter flight from Cap-Haïtien arrived with 47 passengers, all U.S. citizens seeking refuge from the escalating violence and unrest in Haiti’s capital, Port-Au-Prince.
Desperate Conditions in Haiti
Gangs have nearly taken control of Port-Au-Prince, leaving its million residents trapped in their homes due to constant gunfire and the looming threat of starvation. Relief efforts have been hampered by the violence, leaving many without essential aid.
Relief and Gratitude
Avlot Quesaa, one of the passengers, described the dire situation in Haiti and expressed relief at being able to escape. He mentioned registering with the U.S. Embassy and signing a promissory note to cover the cost of the flight.
“It’s an awesome feeling; I feel like a diplomat,” shared a flight attendant, reflecting the gratitude and relief among the passengers.
