A Rare Opportunity
Hank Silver, a carpenter from Massachusetts, was given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to join the restoration project of Notre Dame cathedral in Paris.
Preserving Tradition
Silver and his colleagues at Atelier Desmonts in Normandy worked meticulously to recreate the original 13th-century framing of the cathedral, facing unexpected challenges along the way.
Global Unity in Restoration
Artisans from various countries, including the United States, came together to help rebuild the iconic landmark, showcasing a spirit of unity and dedication to preserving history.
Recognition and Aspiration
Silver’s name now resides in a special chamber atop the cathedral’s spire, commemorating his contribution to the restoration. With aspirations for French citizenship, Silver hopes to continue his journey in France.
Finishing Touches and Reopening
As the restoration nears completion, final touches, including reinstallation of fire safety measures and specially designed furniture, are underway. The cathedral is set to reopen to the public on December 8, with gratitude to global donors, notably American supporters.
